Achieving Greater Removal Efficiency
Carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide removal are frequently necessary for produced natural gas. An array of gas sweetening plants has been designed for the efficient removal of carbon dioxide, which can otherwise result in safety concerns as well as corrosion issues. Specific blends and types of alkyl amines offer various combinations for CO2 and H2S removal. Among the most commonly utilized amine plants are MEA, MDEA, and DEA. The concentration and choice of the amine plant will typically vary based on the composition as well as the application of the gas stream.
Sour gas treatments for the hydrocarbon processing industry have been used for several decades. Amine treatments have served as the most commonly used of those processes. Chemical absorption technology is often an excellent option for treating various levels of CO2 and H2S.
A typical amine treating solution will enter the bottom part of the contracting tower while a cooled lean amine solution is injected at the top of the tower. Self-contained gas sweetening units make it possible to provide for treatment of a high gas flow rate with improved efficiency for high acid removal. This option also offers a low operating cost with minimal amounts of amine losses.
